ABOUT ME: Gillian - ESWIL
If when I had graduated from Leeds Polytechnic in the late eighties, someone would have said to me the love of your life will be a divorced father of two and you will have a high flying career in an industry you’re passionate about, I would have scoffed yet secretly hoped they were right. Thankfully my never-met fortune teller was bang on the money.

The first in my family to go to university supported by quietly determined and proud parents, I went north to Leeds to study; even more north to Edinburgh to cement my studies and then headed south and never went north again. I have been an hotelier for all of my career, working in famous and not so famous hotels along the way. And it has been a blast. I was blessed with the most awesome grandmother who taught me how to let out my inner craft geek and what she couldn’t turn her hand to wasn’t worth bothering with. She also taught me how to play a mean game of Scrabble, such a shame that I then passed those tips onto my gorgeous husband….
My step-sons named me the Step-Witch – not because there was any scandal, simply they loved the contorted looks on people’s faces when they introduced me as such. Which is why you will see me referred to as the ESWIL (Evil Step-Witch in Law).
Here’s me:
-
I am not ready to embrace the grey that is embracing my hair
-
I laugh every day and then sometimes I laugh a bit more
-
There is no greater kick than making something yourself and other people coveting it.
-
I love great food and my inner-hotelier means I love to cook for others.
-
I am completely soft when it comes to my grandchildren, step-kids, cat and hubby (probably in that order too)
-
I will never be a size 10 – but I am absolutely committed to being fit and healthy, there is a difference.
